Schooner or Later -- Restaurant in Long Beach

I saw this featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives" on Food Network.  The restaurant is located at the marina in Long Beach.  As its name suggests, it features beverages in 'schooner' glasses.  While the bar is a prominent feature, the food here is very good!

I arrived for breakfast on a Monday morning, the restaurant was about half full.   Sunday brunch typicaly includes about a 1 to 2 hour wait.  Today I was seated immediately, but it took 10 minutes to get  a menu.   The waitress took the order quickly, but the food took over 30 minutes to arrive.   I never did get the glass of water I asked for.

I ordered a crab omlette.  I was 3 eggs stuffed with shredded chedder cheese and topped with avocado and hollandaise .  I was offered sides of fruit, spinach or potatoes.  It is unusual for a breakfast to include spinach, but what the hell, it was healthy.  This helped set aside the guilt of the hollandaise.

Their speciality is called the "Mess".  It is a blend of chopped ham, onion, and bell pepper grilled with hash browns and eggs, topped with melted Cheddar cheese and served with sourdough toast.  It is a local favorite and looks like it acan feed 3 ( or 1 very hungry Falcon).  For lunch they serve a mixture of burgers, sandwiches, salads and soups.

For the draft selection they include Sierra Nevada, Pyramid, Fosters, Sam Adams, and Coors.  Theri bottle selection is better and includes Fat Tire, Bass, Pilsner Urquell, and others.  The schooner glass is a LARGE 22 ounce goblet.  Other drinks include mimosas, bloody mary, and a limited wine selection.  The bar prices are reasonable.

Basically it was a mixed bag, the food was very good, but the service could be better.   The prices are decent and the protions are good.  The view from the marina is incredible.   On the weekends expect a long delay.
