Beverly Glen Fair

At the start of every summer, the Beverly Glen area shuts down a couple of our residential streets and throws a fair.  This year's fair is this coming Sunday (31st).  Vendors, food and games for kids.  It is a lot of fun and one of the many reasons why I love my neighborhood.  This year I was asked to serve some of my home brew.  It is so nice to have people like our beer.  It's why we do it right?  To make others happy with something we created.

I am so looking forward to serving my beer to the neighborhood (not so much to cleaning all those bottles).  I want to thank The Shop and the Maltose Falcons for introducing me to brewing.  This is the first time I have had a hobby that I've actually stuck with (3 years and running).  Even a carboy exploding in my house hasn't stopped me (just got me to invest in some speidel plastic fermenters).

Take care,

Justin

Have you checked on the legality of serving at the fair? Does this fall under a charity?

It goes towards raising money for the neighborhood association, so it's legal.  I just can't sell it to make money for myself.  In fact, last time some police officers came up to the stand.  I got a little nervous until they asked for some beer!

The fact that an event is a fundraiser for a charity does not in and of itself make pouring your brew at it legal. Unfortunately it's just not that simple.  If the event has pulled a "daily license" from ABC, you're most likely not going to have a problem.  If not, then the serving of any alcohol at a public event is illegal, be it commercial or homebrew.

Not to say it hasn't been done, of course it has.  The enforcement level varies greatly with jurisdiction, or even from one neighborhood to another in the same jurisdiction. This is just an FYI for others who may read this thread and get the wrong idea.

Thanks for the update.  Yes, the neighborhood got a daily liscence.
