Refractometer

Here we go again... the continuing saga of the stuck stout.

I understand that the refractometer is to be used before pitching yeast for an accurate reading, "but" after a beer has been fermenting can you use it to see progress in your fermentation? I mean even if it does not give you an accurate reading can you use it to see if the gravity is stagnant, or if it's slowly proceeding in a downward direction without having to pull out 6 oz of beer every time you want to take a reading?

Thanks

There is a compensation chart that you can download from morebeer.com , so you can use your refractometer after fermentation.
