New brewer needs advice on , well, everything!

Hi all-

I have never brewed beer, though it seems like it would be an absolute blast. I was wondering when the new brewer meeting takes place, so I can start having some fun! In the meantime, any advice as to starter kits, books or magazines to look at would be great!

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

Welcome to the site.

Our next "Brew 101" class is actually this coming Tuesday! I don't know what the style is this month, but they'll get you moving through the basics!

Thanks, Drew!

I signed up for the class, and stopped by the shop on the way home from work. I picked up How to Brew by John Palmer and a couple magazines. I can't wait to get my starter set!

A quick note to those who give out info on the Brewing 101 class: You might want to list that it is cancelled in the event of rain. There were three bummed out hopeful first time brewers at the shop tonight...

Here's hoping next month's weather is a bit better!

 Dave and crew,

You're absolutely right that was our bad. We cancelled really late due to the rain and I didn't have a chance to update the website first. Sorry!

I'll check with everyone, but I believe we're rescheduling to next Tuesday - the 20th. Watch the site!

Yes, indeed, as Drew said we are very sorry to have had to cancel the class on you.  Please do attend next month, and if there happens to be rain at that time, we will be prepared with an easy-up or something.  I was to teach the class this month, and I will volunteer to do so next month as well.  In the meantime, I will watch this space for any comments or questions you have.

Cheers!

Hi Drew and Cullen -

Thanks for the responses. You guys have been really great, and I can't wait until next meeting. I was just thinking that updating the event info, saying something like "Brewing 101 will be cancelled in the unlikely event of rain." It would just save some new people a trip. Hopefully, we won't have to deal with that again, anyway, right?

Rain in November is a more likely event than rain in October.  The news said it was the biggest October storm to hit So. Cal in 45 years.  One begins to assume that there will never be any rain on important dates in So. Cal just because it has been that way so many times in the past.  We were caught off guard, to be sure.  For future class announcements, it will definitely make sense to include the rain-cancellation notice...or to make sure we're prepared for it.

Hello, I have the same question.  I was inquiring when the next club meeting is, I would really like to learn how to brew as well as join.
