We had a record breaking turnout for the January Brew 101 class on Tuesday! Twenty three enthusiastic newbies crowded around the brew kettle out in the back of the shop. We were turning away others who were calling up the shop asking if they could come to the class as there was just not enough room for them all.
Kent Fletcher was the instructor, and he was assisted by myself, and Mick Deering. It was cold, and there were some light sprinkles, but that did not deter these new brewers one bit.
Kent did a fine job, as always, going over the basics of the equipment and ingredient kits that are sold at the shop. Mick added some color commentary, and talked about becoming a club member, and I prepped the equipment. It was a well oiled machine with the excited students looking on in intrest, and asking a great many questions. We were all kept warm by a keg of Russian Imperial Stout that I brought for the occasion.
The class lasted about 3 hours, with several people staying later asking more questions of the instructors. We ended up with 5 gallons of porter, which will brought to the next club meeting. There was also brisk business inside the shop selling equipment and ingredient kits. Due do Mick's membership speech, we signed up quite a few new Falcons too.
All in all, it was a very successful and fun class. Hope that next months is just as successful!
Cheers!
