What do you all think? Obviously other than the fact that we should all know better than to drive illegally - doesn't it strike anyone as a bit extreme to drop an interlock on a first time offender?

I could see making it voluntary, like if you get the interlock, they cut the fine in half or something.
I'm sure they already do deals with reducing fines or time served in exchange for an ignition lock. I guess you would just have to make sure if you go somewhere you're gonna drink then you don't have to be in a hurry afterward.

Hmmm, meanwhile the penalty for first time driving-while-texting is only $20 and doing this is far more likely to kill someone.
