Falcons, we have another opportunity to have a very special brew session at a brewery, this time care of Falcons Alex Samovitz and Donovan Nebreklievski, brewmasters at the newly opened Westlake Brewing Co. Westlake has offered to let 9 Falcons members sign up to participate in this hands-on brew session in the brewery, making a Westvleteren 12 clone using yeast from a single bottle of Westy that John Aitchison has cultivated, and taking 5 gallons of wort to ferment at home .

Westvleteren 12 (XII) or "Westy" 10.2% ABV Quad brewed by Sint-Sixtus Abdij van Westvleteren, Belgium, and may be the most highly-acclaimed, rarest beer in the world. Sint-Sixtus is the world's only Trappist brewery where the monks (there's only 10 of them) still do all of the brewing. The monks don't allow sales of the beer outside the abbey, with the exception of Café In de Vrede adjacent to the brewery, because profits of the beer may only support the continuation of their way of life. One recent, ultra-rare release of Westy for retail sale was to fund a new roof for the monastery, and sixpacks fetched up to $100 or more.
This is a huge honor and generous gift to the Falcons, for which the club is eternally grateful to Westlake Brewing. This is open to fully paid members only, but there is no restriction for those who have done a brew session in the last 3 months. First come, first served. You must participate and stay until the end of the brew day. Please DO NOT sign up unless you can take home a share of wort. Please arrive on time, with your bucket or carboy, ready to work, wearing close-toed shoes. Absolutely no homebrew is allowed on the property. There shall be beer, but be on your best, safety-first, instruction-following behavior and respect the place!
Have a blast, and please take lots of photos (even some smartphone video clips!) and post to your social media, and the Falcons Facebook page and website, and tag Westlake Brewing Co. https://www.facebook.com/westlakebrewingcompany/ -- https://twitter.com/westlakebrewing -- and give them some love for this great club event! If you're not on social media, send them to me.
