Ever wanted to know what it's like to be a BJCP Certified beer judge? Ever wanted to bring your beer knowledge out of the realm of the causal consumer and into the realm of the almost-but-not-quite professional?! Ever wanted to leave people in awe of your vast beer style expertise?
Well, here is your chance. January 20th, 7:00pm at the clubhouse.
On January 20th, 2015 we will begin a series of four classes covering all aspects of BJCP beer judging. We will work to prepare you to become a beer judge. Judges can travel all over the world (at their own expense) to evaluate beers in competitions and share the comradere of those who know about beer. Los Angeles is a hot bed of homebrew competitions, three hosted by the Maltose Falcons, giving you lots of opportunity to come and evaluate some great beers and hang out with neat people.
And, you can become a Provisional level BJCP judge by just completing an online exam. The exam is no walk in the park, but I know your love of good beer (and bragging rights) will push you to succeed. That, and our training, led by one of the most respected beer judges in the Southland, John Aitchison. The first class will provide an overview of the beer judging process, and preparation for that online exam, as well as some beer tasting and practice evaluation.
One of the hardest parts about become a permanent beer judge is getting a seat for a tasting exam. This year, we have a unique opportunity to take the test at the AHA's NHC in San Diego. Historically, everyone who's signed up for taste tests at the NHC has gotten a seat. This year, a drive to San Diego is all that's required to make that happen.
Subsequent classes will educate and prepare for the tasting exam, and will be held once a month in February, March and April. Exact dates, TBD.
The price for the first class is $10, which offsets the costs of copies and tasting beers. The class limit is 25 people.
