Brew with a Falcon 2017

Our annual "Brew with a Falcon" day is set for Saturday, March 25th! Here's the skinny: a few members of the club will be opening up their homes to other folks to brew together. Most of these sites will be unlike a shop brew - there will be no wort for members to take home. Instead, brewers will signup and on Saturday, March 25th you'll go to your chosen location and hang out, learn and help out.

February Club Shop Brew Session - BIPA With Matt

Join Board Publicity Director Matt Myerhoff in a Belgian IPA on Sunday, February 26 at the Home Beer Wine and Cheese Making Shop. Here are the top-rated examples. Belgian IPA, (Category 21B, Specialty IPA) is a pretty new style, emerging in the mid 2000s. Homebrewers and microbreweries simply substituted Belgian yeast in their American IPA recipes. Belgian breweries added more hops to their tripel and pale ale recipes, so there are all different styles among the great ones, including Brewery Vivant Triomphe, Houblon Chouffe, Epic Brainless IPA, Green Flash Le Freak, Stone Cali-Belgique, and Flying Dog's Raging Bitch. This one will have some of the rich, creamy mouthfeel and strong complex yeast aromas of a Belgian blonde, with a wild bouquet of hops.

January 2017 Shop Brew - Falcons Claws With Drew

The December Shop Brew Session had to be postponed to Sunday, January, January 15. The signups are carried with the date, including the wait list.

Board Member & Grand Hydrometer Drew Beechum will lead the crew in brewing Falcons Claws, the our version of Samichlaus, a monster dark Swiss lager that was once the strongest beer in the world at 14% ABV. It started in 1979 when Swiss-based Hürlimann Brewery decided to brew a Christmas lager on December 6—St. Nicholas Day (feast day). Until its doors closed in 1997, Hürlimann Brewery produced Samichlaus every year on December 6, and built up a loyal fan base along the way. Be ready for a year of lagering before bottling, and you'll be enjoying it next Christmas by the fire! READ MORE.

There's no single type of Holiday Ale, but they tend to be dark, high gravity, complex, warming, and malty brews, often with spices added. Notable examplars include Anchor Brewing's "Our Special Ale" (Christmas Ale), and Sierra Nevada's Celebration Holiday Ale.

August Club Shop Brew Session - Black IPA with Ed!

Falcons, sign up now for the August Club Shop Brew Session as Board Member Ed Kochanowski leads the crew in brewing a Black IPA, that style you hate to love or love to hate. Cascadian Dark Ale? American Style Black Ale? Who cares! Either way, you know it will be deeply, darkly hoppy! Black IPA is a beer with the dryness, hop-forward balance, and flavor characteristics of an American IPA, only darker in color – but without strongly roasted or burnt flavors. The flavor of darker malts is gentle and supportive, not a major flavor component.
