Shop Brew Belgian Strong Dark Ale - Westy-ish

From the January '18 shop brew session, this recipe was created based on several ingredients I found available for cheap/free. The shop had accidentally ordered a bag of Munich light malt of a brand that they don't normally stock, so they marked it way down to get it out of inventory. I mentioned to several other members that I wanted to use that malt for the shop brew to see if they had recipe suggestions. John Aitcheson said he had saved yeast slurry from an earlier batch that had been cultured from a bottle of Westvleteren 8 and offered it for the shop brew. Given that yeast (free!) and that malt (cheap!) a strong dark Belgian style brew made the most sense. At this writing, the ferment is now tapering off. The wort by itself tasted fantastic.

CALL FOR HOSTS! Brew With a Falcon - March MASHness!

Our annual Brew With a Falcon day is going to be a little different this year. In the past, BWaF has taken place on a set Saturday where 4 - 6 hosts across the Los Angeles area. We're thinking it would be a lot more fun to have BWaF on as many days as possible in March - just like there is a slew of basketball games in the month of March! Our hopes are to have at least 1 brew day on each weekend of the month. Makes it a little easier for everyone to make it to BWaF this year - weekends get booked up quickly with life stuff!

Presidents Report November 2017 - Volunteerism

CullenNewsletter image.pngVOLUNTEERISM
President's Report - November, 2017
By Cullen Davis, Maltose Falcons Board President

I honestly don’t mind doing President duty for the Falcons. It’s a relatively low-stress job, mostly just prodding people into doing what they said they would, trying to keep the club on the right path. Soreheads are thankfully rare when there is good beer to be shared. The benefits are decent too, the club buys beer for the board and we get to hang out and shoot the shiz on an extra day every month.

December Club Meeting!

Sunday, December 3rd - Join us for our monthly membership meeting. All are welcome!

Then we'll move on to our lunch - POTLUCK! If you would like to bring a dish to pass, please comment below so Burgerfrau Jenna can organize the line up.
